Beaver Island Ecotours
Wooded Communities

The boreal or northern coniferous forest can be found dominating the west coast of Beaver Island.

Emergent trees are important to large birds of prey such as bald eagles, northern harriers and osprey, all of which can be seen on our tours.

A boreal forest is circumboreal, meaning the community of trees grows around the world in northern latitudes.

On Beaver Island, the boreal forest is made up of mostly white spruce and balsam fir. It may also include white pine, red pine, and northern white cedar.
