Dwarf lake iris (Iris lacustris) – Dwarf lake iris is endemic
to the Great Lakes Region. Populations are found particularly along the northern
shores of Lake Michigan and Huron. The flowers are violet with a white center
and bloom towards the end of May. Where dwarf lake iris occurs it is usually quite
common, forming a carpet of color near the water and back into the forest. Dwarf
lake iris is now the state wildflower of Michigan.
